Need Supplies?

Tis the season to be crafting...falalalalalala! I think all crafters know that the best gifts are handmade! I'd rather stay home and create than fight the crowds at the big box stores, how bout you? And I know I can make much nicer gifts than I could afford to buy, and something personal and unique. They won't get another like it either!

If you're needing some unusual and/or vintage things for your holiday projects, check out my supply shop, I NEED That I have all kinds of great vintage supplies from my treasure hunts, you're sure to find something you "need"!

My New Look!

I've been busy working on 3 new Christmas collections! The first is my Merry and Bright Collection, which is being featured on my Out on a Whim Etsy Shop and on Arts A'Flutter, which is where you can find this darling snowman notebook! This collection will have lots of color, vintage images and GLITTER!

On Sweet Liberty Primitives on Etsy and on Glitter and Grunge is "A Homemade Christmas". This collection will be the homey, old fashioned "prairie Christmas" look. It will feature primitive grungy decor, tags, and ornaments. I'm sure a little glitter will find it's way in too!

Finally, we will have a "Candy Cane Christmas" on Get Happy, with bright colors like cherry red, aqua and apple green! I have my work cut out for me, but I have the ideas, and the supplies, so I can do it! I plan to have it all finished by mid November, so I better get busy!

Before I head to the studio, I want to give a shout out and BIG thank you to Dale of Sea Dream Studio for my pretty new graphics on my blog, and in my etsy shops! Dale is the best...she does amazing work, its impossible to choose just one banner! And she is super fast and helpful. I love her! Check her out when you need new graphics!

Okay, back to the factory, I mean, studio!

Swap in A Bottle and Goodies from a CrackerJack Box!

Hi there! I thought I'd show a couple fun things today! First is my Autumn in a Bottle goodies, from my friend Judy!

On this swap, you empty and clean a 2 liter soda bottle, then cut a door in it and fill it with goodies. Then tape it back up, put a label over the cut, and send it in the mail. You don't wrap it or put it in a box, just hand the full bottle to the post office people! Pretty kewl, huh? So Judy had all these fall goodies in my bottle. Great bowl fillers and they smell good too!

AND, all of this was in the bottle! Amazing, huh? Turns out 2 liters is a lot of crafty stuff! I love it all and it all smelled soo good. I put the Caramel Corn Candle in my car today, and Mr Whim said he could smell it in the driveway! Crazy good smell! Thanks so much Judy!

Speaking of goodies, I found a real prize, or a bunch of them, last week at an antique store. I'd gone out to breakfast with my parents, then "on a whim" we'd stopped in the only store in town that was open, a little antique mall. The first thing I saw when we walked in was a yellow baby elephant planter for $2, so I grabbed him. Then around the corner, I see a big basket FULL of baggies of these CrackerJack and bubblegum machine toys. Each bag was $3, and there was about 20 toys in each. That made them 15 cents each, which of course, is a steal! Usually they are $3 each! Mom and I spent a long time looking through them, trying to find the best few bags. "This one has a clock", "Look at the dog", "Check out this one" Like I said, we looked for a LONG time! In the end, I got 6, and wish I got more! I'm not telling where I got them, so they'll be there, maybe, when I go back :) Right now I am still at the petting stage with them, but I'm thinking charm bracelets, necklaces, etc. I have 120 of them, so I better come up with lots of ideas. So I can go back and get more!

That's it for tonight....See ya later!

And Here it is!

As promised, here is my finished design team project for Glitter and Grunge!

I decided to do a paper bag book for my project. The theme we were to use was "Family Heritage". When I put the kit items in the old cigar box, it reminded me of a junk drawer. Now you know, in my mind, junk is a GREAT thing. Well, usually. I'd done "junk drawer" themed paper bags before, when I used to sell on ebay, and they were always fun, because anything goes with that theme!

I knew the great textures of the fabric samples would be so great in one of those little books, which are so fun to hold and look through. And, with my "junk drawer" style, I knew I could mix and match anything and everything in the kit for it to work! I imagined I was going through the odds and ends that accumulate over a lifetime in a family, the bits and pieces from our daily lives that seem so insignificant at the time, yet bring back the sweet everyday memories that are so important to us!

Wondering exactly how I did it? It's really simple, yet time consuming! The paper bag books are so fun to work on though, and when it's done and you hold it in your hands, its a great feeling. They're so fun to flip through, and you can continue to add to them, move things around...very interactive!

I buy my paper bag books allready made, from sellers on etsy or ebay, whoever has them up at the time! I buy books made from heavy hardware store weight bags, not the ones you carry your lunch in, and they are allready sewn for me. I am sure you need a heavy duty machine to sew them, which I don't have. The books are inexpensive enough to make it worth buying them!

I gathered the fabric samples from the kit, and cut and layered them to fit the pages, sewing them together. I didn't worry about perfectly straight lines, and used the pinky shears a lot, for a casual look. However, don't sew the fabric to the pages, because then you won't be able to stuff the ends with more "junk" :)I also sewed buttons to some of the squares, or else glued them on later. Attatch the fabric to the pages with matte medium or modge podge, used sparingly.

Then the fun starts. Embellish your book with whatever you have lying around! I used buttons, newspaper cutouts, articles and ads from magazines, lace, paper flowers, charms, etc Just use whatever is laying around! From my own stash I added ribbon, some word and letter stickers, etc. For adhesives, I use a mix of the matte medium, glue dots in a couple sized, foam squares, and glue stick. Whatever fits the bill!

To finish it off, I used the flashcards and postcards as tags, adding ribbon to them and other embellishments. I thought it would be cute to add photos to them! Then use a mix of whatever fiber and trims you have laying around, to tie through the holes..yarn, ribbon, twine, fabric, whatever. Anything goes! Then tie more charms, tags, maybe an old key, to the spine as well!

Here is how the finished book looks standing up!

I am going to go and list the book in my Glitter and Grunge Shop, so if you'd like to own it, head on over there....You can see all the Design Team's fabulous projects on the Glitter and Grunge Blog too!
